A Full Day Workshop for Selected Maths Secondary School Teachers of Kota Kinabalu District.

The Objectives of this workshop are:
1. To introduce 21st century T & L 
2. To have a hands-on application of some of the approaches
3. To promote Professional Learning amongst the teachers of 21 different secondary schools
Participants of the workshop arguing the pros and cons of collaborative approach in learning using Thinking Hats methods.




 27 teachers attended this workshop and the feedback collected thru goggle form were very motivating.
Workshops on 21st century T & L for Maths and Science teacher

Methods introduced were Jigsaw, Think Pair and Share and Round table. 
 The use of trafic lights as classroom control was also incorporated.




 It was a hands-on approach so the teachers could decide what alteration  they can adopt to best suit their lessons, students level  and environment.

 the teacher had a hands on  activities on how to prepare teaching materials using Padlet and Popplet. The fèedback was good because they can see straight away it's uses as collaberative tools.

TEAM TEACHING AND COACHING AND MENTORING AT SMK PULAU GAYA


DATE    : 27 January 2015
VENUE : SMK PULAU GAYA KOTA KINABALU
CLASS  : 20 FORM 1 STUDENTS

Scenario at SMK Pulau Gaya:- This school is a secondary school located at an island 15 minutes boat ride from Jesselton Jetty. The students are mostly from fishermen families, they live in water villagers without electricity or freshwater supplies. The students receive education mainly from their teachers in school because their parents are mostly illeterate. The school attendence are below 80% monthly.

- The students in this class have not mastered the basic Mathematical skills of addition,
   multiplication, division and substraction.
- At this lesson the teacher used red bean seeds to help students understand the concept of addition
   and substraction.
- By using the seeds the students can group the seeds according to the instruction in the handouts

(10 +10+10+10+10+10+10+10):  (10 x 8)

Helping students understands Mathematics concepts through Mastery learning using Jigsaw approach

 1st step:- teacher gives an overview of their activities today. The teacher will give different questions for each group to discuss and solve collaboratively. Each students are numbered, after the time allocated students with the same number will gathered. 


All the students in each group will have to master the problem that is assign to their group by the teacher.
Students take turn  explaining to their  peers the concepts they have previously discussed at a different group. At the end of the lesson all the students will have mastered all the different concepts .




The subject teacher will have ample time to monitor the progress and discussion done by each group

Feedback by the students: They loved this method because they can remember the workings easier, when they do the explaining their peers can understand faster, they feel empowered because they are given the responsibility to teach their friends. They don't feel bored because everybody  is given a chance to talk. 


Lesson was at SMK Taman Tun Fuad a secondary school under Kota Kinabalu district. The Maths Teacher was mr Chin a very capable teacher. Before this lesson I had a session with him just to share the Jigsaw method.

COACHING & MENTORING @ SM SHAN TAO KK

Implementing 21st century Learning where students collaborate, communicate, think critically and creatively. They also use Popplet as a collaborative tool. Congratulations to my coachees Ms Dewi and Mr Kelindos for having the initiatives to use 21st century approach.
